When you were 6 weeks old…
Dear Wyatt,
All the experienced moms keep telling me the same thing: it's hard to remember what life was like with a tiny baby. I'm listening to those who have been there, done that. I want to remember these precious days forever. Hopefully writing to you will help me do that to some extent.
Wyatt, when you were 6 weeks old…
Mommy realized that time was going too quickly. Five weeks ago, you were losing too much weight and your doctor told me to feed you as often as possible. Then this week, we found out you've gained more than FOUR pounds since your lowest weight. Now, your doctor wants me to feed you less frequently. I can't believe this happened in a span of a month.
You had yet to smile. You haven't flashed me a social grin yet, but I am going to keep making ridiculous sounds and faces until you do. You'll likely keep giving me the "mommy, you're nuts" look in the meantime.
You loved staring at the ceiling. I have no idea what is so mesmerizing up there, but you sure love looking up above.
You had a love/ hate relationship with your furry brother. Sometimes Nati's loud barks make you jump and cry. But you love checking the furball out when he's nearby.
Mommy hated being away from you even when you were in the pack 'n play a mere foot away from her. I only feel like you're completely safe when I'm holding you. It's not that I don't trust anyone else; I just have an overwhelming need to protect you. I don't see this going away any time soon!
Your team won a playoff game. But you wouldn't know since you cried through the first half then slept through the second half. We won't talk about what happened to your other team this week since we don't want to remember that game.
I second-guessed everything. It's true, your mommy only used to believe the "experts". Now, I'll gladly try any old wives' tale and trust the opinions of others if there's even the slightest chance it will help make you feel better. Motherhood is definitely making me change my mind on some things.
You had yet to sleep for more than 3 hours in a row. I really hope I can "not remember" this one soon.
Love Mommy <3

aw LOVE the picture of him and Nati! Is Nati doing ok with little brother getting the attention?
January 8th, 2012 - 19:00
He seems to be. We try to give him lots of attention and he loves going on walks with the stroller!

What a great picture of Wyatt and Nati! And happy to hear the little man is gaining enough weight!

Hi Jen,
I’m a long-time reader but first-time commenter. I’m 23 weeks pregnant and have loved reading about your pregnancy/motherhood experiences! This post is such a great idea! The pictures are adorable and I’m glad to hear that Wyatt is doing well. You mentioned in a few posts that you planned on using cloth diapers, and I was just wondering how that’s going. My husband and I would like to use cloth diapers as well, but feel overwhelmed with the options and would love to hear from someone who actually uses them! Thanks!
Tiffany

Hi Tiffany! We actually haven’t gone cloth yet. Wyatt has been having a lot of reflux/gas issues and I want that to get better before we tackle cloth diapering. We have the diapers ready to go, so hopefully soon!
January 8th, 2012 - 22:15
@Tiffany We just started cloth diapers last week (at ten weeks). I wish I had started them sooner! They are amazing, and you gotta love the huge cloth diaper booty! We use the Bumgenius 4.0 and Rumparooz. Our detergent is Rockin’ Green. The detergent and Bumgenius diapers are from Cotton Babies, which has free shipping all the time! No minimun orders. Gotta love that! Good luck on your journey to mommy hood!

So cute – I can’t get enough of him. I can’t believe he’s 6 weeks old!

I love ALL the pictures, but especially that last one. Also, look at you! How you can look so amazing on NO sleep is beyond me

what a beautiful way of capturing these memories

I think writing these is such an excellent way to remember everything. And to help ease your mind, both my kiddos suddenly started doing much longer stretches by 8 weeks.

He is just way too sweet. Enjoy every minute!

Too cute! This is a good idea! Maya will be 4 months old Wednesday, and I can’t believe how fast the time has gone by. I find it so hard to live in the moment, and keep looking towards the next development–i.e. when will she be sleeping throught the night, when will she start eating, talking, crawling, etc. I have to remind myself that I will soon miss these days of her being a little baby (well, not so little anymore–she’s outgrown her 3-month clothes!).
I do remember my pediatrician saying, though, that the first 3 months are the hardest, and once she starts giving smiles, it is all worth it. Those smiles will come soon enough, and then you will do anything and everything to bring them back–especially when the smiles turn into hysterical baby laughter! I think when Maya hit 8 weeks and about 10 lbs is when she started sleeping in longer stretches. I hope the reflux is getting better for him (and you)!

She’s already 4mos?! Wow! Wyatt was 10lbs11oz this past week. His doctor said boys start sleeping better between 12-15lbs, so hopefully soon!

Aw, so sweet! I write mine weekly just so I can remember everything! They grow so fast! I cried a little today packing up all M’s newborn clothes.
January 8th, 2012 - 21:41
Aww, I did too

Very cute! I hope he reads this one day!

This is so sweet and such a brilliant idea. I live how blogging has become a way to capture all of these amazing baby experiences.
January 8th, 2012 - 23:54
What a brilliant idea – only I think you need to be more detailed! My 2nd is 2.5 month old and my husband and I spend a lot of time asking each other what the first was doing when. I wish we would have written everything down with the first one in great detail – even things that are seemingly mundane – like when (if) he started trying a pacifier, when he decided it was ok, when he couldn’t live without it, when he started facing forward in the baby Bjorn carrier etc….. That would have be super helpful now. Not to mention a great memory for him. You are an amazing Mom!

Such a cutie! … Sleep will get better … Promise

Have you tried to sleep with Wyatt? I dont know how you feel about that, but its really safe if you use common sense. When my son was little he would not sleep either, especially if i put him down on his own. He wanted to be held. He slept next to me in bed and did much better through the night.
Also, when i put him down for naps i let him sleep on his tummy. He still prefers to sleep on his tummy and only occasionally will sleep on his back at 18 months. Again, not sure how you feel about that, but i checked on him a lot and wasnt worried. But I’m pretty laid back with a lot of things. You just have to keep trying things until you get it right! Or, just accept your baby isnt a good sleeper and there isnt much you can do till they start to grow out of it. You WILL make it through!

Thanks girl! We tried sleeping with him a few nights and it doesn’t work. Last night we got desperate and alternated letting him sleep on us. He hated that too. He sleeps best when being held upright on his tummy so no clue how we can do that at night!

You’re doing a great job Jen! Thanks for having me over to see you and Wyatt the other night. He’s such a cutie
Keep taking good notes so eventually (hopefully) I can hit you up for advice!!

I just love the picture of Wyatt and Nati. It almost looks like they’re holding hands (err…paws). So sweet!

|Please do not listen to the dr about feeding. If you are breastfeeding feed the baby when ever he wants to be fed. Drs do not really know much about breastfeeding, or nutrition.

I swear Wyatt gets cuter every single day! And this is such a cute post. It’s really amazing how much they change in a few short weeks. I’m sure in another 6 weeks things will be very different. I hope his sleeping gets better soon! Hang in there. He’ll make it through the night eventually.
January 9th, 2012 - 20:49
This is really so precious. And such a good idea! I will have to steal it! Hope things get easier soon with the sleeping… your baby is the cutest! xox

So sweet! Your post made me think of when my baby was that age!! He just turned 9 months and it really does go by so fast. sadly, the sleep thing is still an issue for us.
