Why I heart blogging

Back in May, I started blogging to document my triathlon training and path to fertility.

Never would I have guessed that it would open so many doors to new friendships :)

Meeting wonderful ladies in Charlotte was seriously a God send. Pretty soon I had plans to eat or sweat all the time. Quite terrific :)

But I kind of thought my relationships would stick to the greater Charlotte area. I had some blog friendships that moved on to email, but I thought they'd stay viral...

Until last weekend that is. I met a whole bunch of wonderful bloggers at the Healthy Living Summit.

One of the weekend's highlights was the 16 mile run with an amazing group.

I enjoyed thhe company on this run SO much and was bummed when it was over :(

This weekend, I headed to visit family up in Massachusetts. I scoured mapmyrun and running forums to try to find a route to do my long run. I failed miserably and decided to skip it this weekend.

I whined about my lack of long run options in MA on Twitter. Pretty soon I had an email from Becky and we realized I'd only be about 35 minutes away from where she lives.  Long run buddy? Check!

Then Lauren joined in on the fun. I've been reading her blog for months and love her because she's a fellow public health nerd. And it just so happened that Lauren and Becky were friends, and willing to work around my crazy schedule.

(thanks for the picture Becky!)

They invited me to a lovely trail in Rhode Island. We ran 14 miles at an 8:55 pace in glorious weather! Seriously, it was in the 50's and 60's with no humidity. It made me so eager for Fall.

I had SO much fun running with these girls! We're discussing doing a relay race and possibly even a Fall marathon. If I feel insane enough... ;)

Can I tell you how excited I am to have running friends all over the country? (Well at least the eastern seaboard.) I tried so hard for so long to get my BFFs into running so we could travel to races together. But now I know there are wonderful people out there just like me who are just as eager to race with friends!  I can't wait to run with you girls again!

What's your favorite thing to do with friends?

  1. Aww, love all your pic’s. The healthy living summit was so much fun. Kinda wish we were back there this weekend again, haha.

    Have an awesome night!!

  2. DYING of jealousy reading this post. Mostly because of the partners, but a tiny bit for the weather too :)

Looking forward to travelling and racing together for many years to come! I can’t get my IRL friends to run or race with me either, but I would drive or fly anywhere to run or cheer for someone I love!
    :)

  3. Amazing Jen!!! Wish I could have been there with you girls!! My run was 17 miles of hills… eek!! Can’t wait for future Boston runs with you!

  4. Even though you and Becky are my only blog running buddies (blunnies?? haha) so far, I have to say that even being able to TALK about running with so many different people is one of my favorite parts of blogging. I’ve missed having that camaraderie ever since my cross country days ended.

I’m so glad our run worked out today, and I’m looking forward to future runs (and races!) with you!
