26.2 plans change

Posted by runnerstrials

Thanks so much for all the kind words on my 20 mile trail race. I really cannot believe I did it :)

This time tomorrow I'll be in a car that will take me to a plane that will take me to the Healthy Living Summit :) Incredibly excited about this. It's been 9 days since my last blogger meet-up and I am going through withdrawal. Cannot wait to be surrounded by people who don't think I'm weird for carrying around packets of Justin's peanut butter in my purse or running 20 miles through the woods.

Last night I did something crazy:

I finally signed up for a marathon! :)

I'll be running the Spinx Run Fest Marathon in Greenville, SC on October 30! Anyone want to join me?

This is not the marathon I planned on doing. Remember how I planned to run the Atlantic City Marathon because it's flat and I wanted  to qualify for Boston? (Check out this post). Plans changed for a few reasons:

  • I don't want to be exhausted at the start. I love coming up to NJ. But every time I'm here, I'm pulled in different directions. To see family, friends, go into the office. It's fun but exhausting. Seriously, Tylenol pm hasn't even helped me sleep this week. And it's also a huge change in my routine which is not something I want to do the week before a marathon.
  • To avoid the unexpected. Tackling a new race course is exciting... when it's not 26.2 miles. I don't like surprises. I want to know where the hills are, which way the wind is likely to blow, etc. I'm anal but you would be too if you were training for a big race for months and had a time goal, right? I've run the Spinx Run Fest Half for the past 2 years. It's a very hilly course, but it's scenic and I know it. I've been told the second half isn't that hilly which helps. I realize this may hurt my chance to BQ, but there will be more opportunities.
  • I love my husband. Hubby wouldn't have been able to make it to a NJ race. I thought this was no big deal at first. But during my 20 mi trail race Sunday, I really wanted him by my side. He won't run the race with me (ha, like he could keep up ;) ) but he'll be available in the final few miles if I need him (he's running the half).

Plans were made to be changed right? This also means I have 2 extra weeks to train . I'm not sure if I'm happy or upset about that. Check back in a few weeks.

Now excuse me while I go pack for Chicago :) See you in Central Standard Time folks.

How do you pick races?
