Posture #fail

Posted by runnerstrials

Hi guys!

I finally found the official results to my first Olympic tri. They honestly weren't as bad as I thought they'd be:

  • Official time 3:30:50, 20 out of 27 female finishers.
  • Swim: 34:48 (2:19 per 100 m pace), 24/27 females.
  • Bike: 1:58:34 (14.2 mph), 25/27 females.
  • Run: 48:48 (7:52 min mi), 7/27 females.

I placed third in my age group... out of 3 women. But my run time was faster than my husband's by 22 seconds. HA. Isn't that all that really matters? ;)

Just like my sprint triathlon, it's obvious I need to work on the swim and the bike. At least I have one event down :)

After I finished the race, I declared that I was done swimming and biking, and I was devoting all of my exercise time to marathon training. But somehow I ended up in the pool yesterday, I made plans to bike tomorrow morning and I keep searching for triathlons to do this fall. What can I say? I guess I just see LOTS of room for improvement and am up for the challenge ;)

Moving on... as I was looking through pictures from my triathlon, I can across the WORST PICTURE OF ME EVER. This picture also reminded me that I was supposed to be working on my posture for the month of July. Remember when I posted the Straight Up Challenge on July 1? Yeah, I forgot about it too. Bad blogger.

So did I meet my posture goals?

  • Practice good workplace ergonomics: I bought a new desk- sucess! But, I've yet to purchase a new chair- fail. At least it's a step in the right direction.
  • Ab and back work: Fail. I haven't done a crunch since before my surgery in mid-June. I can really tell, too. I want to start weight training more regularly, but I honestly just don't enjoy it at all. I need some motivation.
  • Yoga: Success! Emily was kind enough to take me to to my first yoga class a few weeks ago. Then I invested in an unlimited pass for the month. I've been 5 times and have plans to go tonight. I'm kind of falling in love with yoga. And it helps that many of my friends do it, too. Yoga definitely has found a home in my workout rotation.
  • Behavioral reinforcements: Fail. Every time the little "SIT UP" reminder went off on my outlook calendar, I sat up for a minute and then forgot about it.

When I created these goals, I had no clue how I was going to measure them. Kelly suggested that I have someone randomly take a picture of me and we could judge from there.

So here is the WORST PICTURE OF ME EVER from Sunday's race...

Gah! See how slouched I am, and how I'm pushing my stomach and butt out? (You can also tell how excited I was to get in the water, right?) So, obviously my Straight Up Challenge was a huge #fail.

Sigh. I'm at a loss for what to do...
