Dressing the part
I've been debating for the past month or so if I should invest in some triathon clothes.
Pros for getting tri clothes:
- I don't see how putting on bike shorts over a wet bathing suit would work. Especially when I'm trying to do it fast. I'm clumsy enough as it is and just see myself getting hurt.
- Wouldn't my wet bathing suit then make my bike shorts wet? As if I didn't chafe enough...
- I hate my bike shorts. I only have one pair and they're really don't fit well, so this was an excuse to get more comfortable shorts.
- I can't run in normal spandex shorts because they ride up. I thought about doing the whole "race in a sports bra and spandex shorts thing" but couldn't for this reason.
Cons:
- Tri clothes are expensive!
- This is my first tri. What if I hate it? Then purchasing clothes would be a waste.
In the end I decided to get some tri clothes because I like buying clothes
Triathlon clothes come in 1 or 2 pieces- a unisuit or a separate top and short bottom.
First I tried on the one piece. I have a long torso and this was not comfortable- not to mention unflattering! It also gave me horrendous flashbacks to the unis we had to wear in college for crew, yikes. This was an obvious no.
Second I tried on a 2 piece. I liked how the bottoms fit. And I thought the style of the zip top was cute. But once again, my long torso stopped me from buying the top. I'm not too keen on having my stomach show, especially since I have a scar, tattoo and I'm pretty pasty
I could only imagine how much the top would ride up during the run.
I was losing hope, but then I managed to find an extra long top. It went well with the shorts I liked. Score! I would have preferred a different color for my race outfit- so my generous spectators could easily spot me- but I didn't have many options or time since I waited until the week before my race.
Yay! I just really hope I enjoy the triathlon since I spent a small fortune on bought the apparel. Can't wait to test it out on a brick tomorrow morning
